The Enefit 280-2 chemical plant has reached its full height, and in keeping with tradition, a topping-out ceremony was held in its honor! Enefit 280-2 is one of the largest—if not the largest—construction sites in Estonia.
A large number of specialists in their respective fields have contributed to reaching today’s milestone: drawing on the expertise of the Norte design bureau, we served as the lead designers for the general construction aspects of both the retort building and the turbine building; the steel for the retort building was manufactured by Maru Metall; Maru THM is responsible for steel installation, and the concrete work is managed by Maru Betoonitööd, the flagship of the Estonian concrete construction industry. Maru Ehitus manages this project, along with the installation of technical systems, to provide the client with a seamless and worry-free turnkey service. The following facts vividly illustrate the building’s scale: The height of the retort building at
is approximately 70 meters, which, while lower than the twin towers on Maakri Street in downtown Tallinn, exceeds their volume many times over; the building contains 6,700 metric tons of steel, which is nearly as much as in the Eiffel Tower; the turbine hall will be located approximately 9 meters below the groundwater level—in terms of scale, this is comparable to the building at the Port of Tallinn, whose foundation is considered one of the most technically complex engineering solutions in Estonia’s construction landscape.
Eesti Energia has the technology, knowledge, and experience to create a sustainable chemical industry in Ida-Viru County, supported by the circular economy. This is an important step toward achieving carbon neutrality—the path to net zero. Thus, the plant currently under construction plays a key role in Eesti Energia’s vision for the chemical industry.
