We have begun concrete work at the NPM magnet plant in Narva, and the erection of the structural frame will begin shortly. Our scope of work includes the construction of approximately 400 strip foundations, the construction of technological pits (so-called “basins”) and water tanks, and the installation of concrete elements for the structural framework of a production building covering approximately 20,000 square meters and an office block covering 4,000 square meters. Our scope of work includes approximately 2,100 cubic meters of concrete structures and the installation of approximately 1,100 concrete elements. We expect to complete the foundations and underground structures by late fall, and the framework work is scheduled to be finished by the end of January. Our work will then continue with the construction of approximately 24,000 m² of concrete floors.
The plant will begin producing magnets needed for electric cars and wind turbines, with Europe as its primary market. The plant will be the largest and only one of its kind in Europe in its segment and will therefore play a significant role in the green transition. The magnet factory, being built by Silmet’s parent company NPM, will play a significant role both in helping to bring the green transition to life and in creating new, skilled jobs in Ida-Viru County.
