The Concrete Building of the Year 2024 is the Kalevi Yacht Club Harbour Building

The new harbour building of Kalev Yacht Club has been awarded the title “Concrete Building of the Year 2024”! This project shaped and brought to life the long-standing imaginations of many people – today’s and future seafarers – while also transforming Pirita and the Kalev Yacht Club into a more modern hub.

A total of 12 nominees were submitted for the “Concrete Building of the Year 2024” competition. Among them were two MARU projects: in addition to the Kalev Yacht Club harbour building, also the Enefit 280-2 chemical plant. The special award from Äripäev’s construction news went to Maru Betoonitööd OÜ – for the concrete works on the Enefit 280-2 and the Estonian Internal Security Service buildings.

In this year’s winning building – the Kalev Yacht Club harbour building – wood and concrete architecture have been skillfully combined, blending seamlessly into the surrounding environment, both in the interior and exterior design. One of the building’s most unique features is the use of old sails embedded into the casting molds of the exterior wall’s reinforced concrete elements. In this way, the sails of club members have been memorialized on the building’s concrete facade, alongside the Kalev Yacht Club logo.

We thank the client, the architect, our partners, and the MARU project team for the excellent collaboration and the successful completion of the project! A special thanks also goes to the organizers of the “Concrete Building of the Year” competition – the Estonian Concrete Association and the Association of Estonian Building Materials Producers – for the nomination and recognition.
