Kalev Yacht Club’s Marina Building

Maru Ehitus constructed a new two-story harbor building and boat shed for the Kalev Yacht Club in Pirita, which was named “Concrete Building of the Year 2024” for its skillful combination of timber and concrete architecture.

According to the jury, the project was built with true passion, a devotion evident in every detail. To create a unique concrete pattern, the harbor building’s precast concrete elements were cast using old sails donated by club members.

Bringing the architect’s vision to life required remarkable ingenuity given the building’s complexity. The project was completed on schedule thanks to a fast-track design-build approach.

Rigo Rebane, Project Manager at Maru Ehitus, highlighted the primary project challenges (Ehitusuudised, March 21, 2025):

• Technical complexity: Integrating a wide variety of materials into the building frame and exterior walls, including concrete, glass, sandwich panels, glulam, timber cladding, and structural steel. The project also featured a broad range of door and window assemblies, such as overhead sectional doors, aluminum, steel, timber, and glass doors, alongside PVC windows and sliding doors.
• Concurrent design and construction: Executing work through a fast-track design-build model.
• On-site engineering: Developing and refining final technical design details directly during construction.
• Multi-contractor schedule management: Coordinating time management across multiple simultaneous subcontracts.
• Site logistics: Managing active construction logistics to ensure the uninterrupted daily operations of the Kalev Yacht Club.
