Apartment building with commercial spaces on Aia Street

The apartment building is unique both because of its location in Tallinn’s Old Town, nestled among historic buildings, and because of its architectural design, in which the frame of the terrace building is constructed using a composite structure. The challenge for the design team lay in devising a solution for the complex cantilevers and the load-bearing structure of the terrace landscape. The challenge for the construction team lay in the complexity of the construction process due to the cramped conditions in the Old Town. For this challenging work, Maru Ehitus was awarded the Estonian Association of Architects’ Medal of Merit for Best Builder of 2009.
